The Junior Sikh Coalition is a student-led initiative designed to inspire Sikh youth, strengthen the communities to which they belong, and help them achieve their leadership potential. Members receive intensive year-long leadership training and mentorship from Sikh Coalition staff and share this knowledge with other youth to promote social justice and community.

With the world going through so many changes and challenges in these uncertain times, we as a team wanted to give our youth at home an outlet to express their creativity. In this time of social distancing, it is important for us to remain connected, so we created this competition to stay engaged in community while we are all apart.

For ages 0-8 and 9-12, we asked for submissions on the theme of “Community.” In this time of uncertainty, we wanted to encourage youth to think about the communities they are a part of, and how they may be interacting with them now.

For ages 13-16 and 17-26, we encouraged participants to submit art or poetry surrounding the theme of “Resilience.” To get through these unprecedented times, we have to be resilient—but this looks different for everyone. We asked folks to consider: "What does resilience look like for you?"

We are very thankful to all of our participants for sharing their work with us. We hope that these stellar pieces of artwork and poetry from Sikh youth around the world give you some joy in these difficult times.
